New Kits for Kids Procedures

We have tweaked how we handle Kits for Kids just a bit. Here are the new procedures:

1.       Kits for Kids are shelved in the Children’s area near the Audio Visual items.

2.       Kits can be returned through the outdoor walk-up return or at the P.S. Desk. Desk staff will check the kits out to the Kits for Kids card and put them in the exceptions bin.

3.       Always check to see if the kit is charged to the Kits for Kids card and if it’s not check it out to KITS.

4.       If you don’t have time to check the kits contents please put the kit on the Kits for Kids shelf near the back AMH door.

5.     When checking in kits check for condition of items and missing items. If something in the bag or the bag itself is damaged or dirty keep it checked out to KITS and put it on Jon’s desk in the Children’s area.  If any items are missing write the missing items on the back of the laminated contents sheet under ITEMS MISSING and completely fill out the Kits for Kids Issues form, including the last 3 digits of the barcode and continue to allow the kit to circulate (go to step 6).  If more than 3 items are missing keep it checked out to KITS, fill out the Kits for Kids Issues form and put it on Jon's Desk at the back of the Children's workroom. Forms will be placed at each of the page computers. More forms can be found on the page computer in the FKI folder/printables section if needed.

6.      If everything is ok with the kit, or 3 or less items are missing, discharge it. If a holds slip prints, place it in the reserves bin by the back AMH or put it on one of the tall carts near Andy’s office. If no holds slip prints, it’s ready to shelve, so put it on the next children’s cart to be shelved.

      7.   Shelve Kits for Kids on the Kits for Kids shelves near the Audio Visual shelving in the Children’s area. Kits should be shelved in alphabetical order.

Let Kim or Pam know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. The reason for this tweak is that there are too many kits out of circulation due to missing a couple items.  Let us know how the process is working for you. Your feedback helps us make the whole system work better!
