Children's carts

We are making a change in the way we load, sort and shelve Children's carts. We will now (for the summer anyway) have 3 different kinds of Children's carts. 

1. J Graphic, J-I and J Fiction carts

2. Picture book and J Nonfiction carts

3. J AV carts - this cart has not changed

The exciting part of this change is that it should take well under an hour to shelve Children's carts no matter which kind of cart you shelve. Pam test shelved a picture book/non fiction cart and it took her 40 minutes and only 7 minutes to sort. We haven't tested a J Fiction cart yet but I suspect it will take even less time.

Children's carts will be on the side of the bookdrop room that Pam and my offices were on, that is why our office needed to move. There will be no more Children's carts in the Children's workroom as that area will be seeing some changes very soon. Like carts will be kept with like carts, just like we do with the Adult Fiction and AV carts.

Because our discharge to shelf time is so important to how our library runs and because it affects every person that works at the library and all of our patrons, library staff will each be shelving one hour a week this summer. This adds up to a lot of shelving hours. I know things have been tough and it's hard when ever day you come in and feel like you are facing a seemingly impossible hurtle, but with all of the library working together as a team we will accomplish our goals. Things will get better.
