Fun Tech: Pandora

The Box is Open

This summer I took a class on social networking technology. While you may already know a lot about MySpace or Facebook I thought I might share with you some other websites that I found to be fun. Most of them are free and easy to use. I'll post a link to any websites I highlight on the Cool Websites list on this blog.

Last week I placed a link to Pandora on the Cool Websites list. Pandora is a free online radio station. So, what is the big deal? Most online radio is free. Well at Pandora YOU are the DJ. Once you sign up you can create a number of different stations and decide what each one will play. You choose a group or an artist and it will find other music that is similiar. If you are not sure what you want you can listen to a song from an artist and "try them out". As you hear different songs you can give a thumbs up or a thumbs down to the music and the website will learn from your choices to create your stations. You can even share your stations with your friends or read what other listeners think about an artist. Then just sign on the next time you need some tunes and your personal radio stations are waiting for you.
If you find any cool websites you would like to share post a comment or e-mail me at pjager@rochester.lib.mn.us .
